All seems well, like your average high school love story, except then it’s not. Boom, all of a sudden, you’re thrown into psychological horror, and frankly, it’s a great time. The narrative spans six SwingTowns weeks, and it’s up to you to decide how you wish to spend this time. Do you focus on a single love interest and spend all your time with them, or do you get to know all prospective romantic partners?
Dating sims and visual novels were, in the past, often overlooked video game genres. That isn’t the case as much nowadays with their growing popularity in the West. Whether it’s to live vicariously through the characters on your screen, or the desire to enjoy a good story, dating sims and visual novels provide hours of entertainment. As the month of love, February is the perfect time to celebrate new romantic pairings. Even if there’re no new budding relationships in real life, people can always look forward to new romance stories in video games, especially within the dating sim genre. Dating sims are a video game subgenre of simulation games, usually Japanese, with romantic elements.
Have you ever wanted to be the star of your own romantic comedy? If the answer is yes to both of those things, boy, are you in for a treat with Arcade Spirits. It’s a rom-com in the form of a visual novel, and it takes place in an old-style arcade. You’re the new staff member, and a couple of regulars catch your eyes, as do some of your coworkers. They say never to mix business and pleasure, but hey, you do you, perhaps you like a little drama in your life. Not a dating sim, but Long Live the Queen, is all about stat building.

The shop you inherited has brought you back to your hometown. However, the shop has become run down, and no one wants to even window shop there anymore. Can you turn the shop around and even expand it, or is it destined to stay in the red forever? You’ll get help from a magical sprite named Pochica, who will help you get the store back up and running, and introduce you to all of the unique characters who reside in the town. The villagers will all change and grow throughout the game, and that person who you thought might be up to no good when you first met them just might have a heart of gold!
Lots of replayability here, although searching for some events and unlocking some of the more random CGs can be a pain. While a single playthrough shouldn’t take that long, the game has plenty of romanceable characters, alternate endings, and intriguing secrets that will reward players for multiple playthroughs. The game also lets players date whoever they want, which is just great. So if you’re looking for a dating sim filled with characters that are just as passionate about animals as you are, then you can’t go wrong with Best Friend Forever. Either prominently containing or entirely themed around romance, this genre is typically focused on interpersonal romantic relationships between characters and the player. The game introduces tons of new content, including a new route, interludes, and even new events.
Mystic Messenger is a beloved staple in the otome games genre, and it is notorious for its addictive nature and swoon-worthy cast. Players get to grow their relationship with characters through real-time texts and calls that occur at set times over the course of about ten days. Love isn’t the only goal of the game, though; survival is also key. With cults, overly possessive bachelors, and cracks in the fourth wall, there are some serious threats to the protagonist’s safety throughout the game. The anxiety brought by the lurking danger, is nothing compared to the added stress of planning a massive, extravagant charity event over the course of the game, though. Psychological thrillers, point-and-click games, and romantic visual novels may sound like starkly different categories, but they’re easily united through their shared connection to dating sims.
With four interesting routes and everything fully voice-acted, this may be Voltage’s best game yet. As much as I want to like The Arcana, I just can’t get past the predatory microtransactions. The game is so heavily overpriced for the content that is actually there. Our company is not perfect but we are trying to make The Arcana and Fictif better everyday.
The Tutor REVIEW – Fails the Test
As the game progresses, players earn money and increase their passengers in order to expand their airport, unlock new gameplay elements, and raise the level of challenge. Players are also able to design and share their own planes with a wide range of colors and patterns via StreetPass. The graphics are quite impressive at times for a VR game, and players have described the relationship between the characters in-game to be quite genuine and wholesome. The main complaint that players have is the price in regards to the length, but the experience is still worth it for the short time you have.
I have family and friends who are genderqueer and would love to play a game like this. However i don’t feel comfortable recommending it to them. If there were a one-time payment, full purchase option, i would happily change my mind and be likely share it with others. Instead of trying to woo “Senpai” (because the main character’s Cuteness Proximity prevents her from even talking to the guy), she instead has to kill or otherwise sabotage her rivals to prevent them from successfully dating Senpai. Season 3 of Aggretsuko opens up with Retsuko playing a dating sim called Heartthrob!
We respect your viewpoint and we always look for ways to improve our game, which we have done over time. We have worked on The Arcana for approximately four years now and we are still expanding the content. One can play our game for free and the endings of each character route are not determined by whether one pays us money. We have expanded the ways we offer free coins and including special weekends with infinity keys and coin sales. We feel our high ratings in the app store reflect the overall high quality of our product and the time and money we have invested in The Arcana. We know our game is not for everyone, but we continue to improve every year and we respect everyone’s opinions whether they like or don’t like The Arcana.
